Krzysztof Krupa (Poland) – 2nd Prize Winner of 13th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Making Competition (2016)

Krzysztof Krupa was born in Poznań, Poland on January 5th, 1979. In 1992 he started to learn violin making craftmanship at his father’s workshop in Poznań. In 1994 he entered High School of Music in Poznań from which he graduated in 1998. In 2003 he finished violin making studies at the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. From 2009 he is taking part in VSA violin making workshops in Oberlin. From 1999 he is a member of the Polish Union of Artist Violin Makers (ZPAL), in 2006 he also joined the Violin Society of America (VSA). From 2003 he is a lutherie teacher at High School of Music in Poznań. Together with his father Antoni and brother Marcin he runs a family violin and bow workshop in Poznań. Krzysztof Krupa was awarded many prizes at violin making competitions.

2002 – 4th International P. Tchaikovsky Violin Making Competition in Moscow  – 2nd Prize and Silver Medal (cello)

2004 – 3rd National W. Kamiński Violin Making Competition in Poznań – 1st Prize (violin) and 2nd Prize (cello)

2005 – International Violin Making Competition in Mittenwald – 4th place and Certificate of Merit (cello)

2006 – VSA Violin Making Competition in Baltimore – 2 Certificates of Merit for workmanship and for sound (viola), Certificates of Merit for workmanship (violin)

2006 – International Violin Making Competition in Dolny Kubin in Slovakia – 2nd Prize (violin) and Special Prize for best tone (violin)

2007 – 5th International P. Tchaikovsky Violin Making Competition in Moscow – 1st Prize and Gold Medal (cello)

2009 – Competition Eufonia – Sofia/Brussels – 1st Prize (cello), 3rd Prize (violin)

2012 – 13th Triennale in Cremona – 2nd Prize and Silver Medal (cello)

2013 – 2nd International Chinese Violin and Bow Making Competition in Beijing – Gold Medal (viola)

2015 – 14th Triennale in Cremona – 3rd Prize and Bronze Medal (viola)

2016 – 13th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Making Competition in Poznań – 2nd Prize (violin)
