Józef Wieniawski – press conference and piano recital by Jacek Kortus (17.10.2016, Hotel Mercure)

Ladies and gentlemen,

the following Monday, October 17th, we invite you for press conference dedicated to younger, but equally musically talented brother of Henryk Wieniawski – Józef Wieniawski.

Józef Wieniawski (1837 – 1912) was Polish pianist, composer, teacher and conductor. Since childhood, together with his brother he performed in concert halls of Poland, Russia (ca. 200 concerts in 2 years), Ukraine, Germany, Austria, Belgium and France. Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society of Poznań decided to, as the opportunity of great musical feast – 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition – occurs, remind the silhouette of younger brother of competition’s patron.

From June to September 2016, by the request of the Music Society and with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the renovation of the tomb of Józef Wieniawski at the Ixelles cemetery in Brussels was carried out. Works were supervised by Dr. Piotr Niemcewicz of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

During the conference we will show short video documenting the renovation of the tomb of Józef Wieniawski (material prepared Studio SIDMA).

The event will feature a performance of outstanding pianist – Jacek Kortus, winner of the Chopin Competition, who is also the author of thesis dedicated to works of Józef Wieniawski.

The conference will be held at the Hotel Mercure at 1:00 p.m.
