Choosing |  Introduced to music at a very early age,  Valérie Milot studied the piano for several years before choosing the harp at the age of ten. Although, to most people, the harp evokes romanticism and delicacy, Valérie sensed an untamed energy in the instrument. As a young adult, she began to devote herself exclusively to her chosen instrument, developing a powerful playing style and bringing out its unexpected versatility. She went on to complete her studies at the Conservatoire  de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec in  Montréal  and Conservatoire de musique de Trois-Rivières  and has taught the harp to students of Conservatoire de musique de Trois-Rivières  since 2015.

Shining |  In 2008, Valérie graduated magna cum laude from the conservatory and was awarded the Prix d’Europe. She was the first harpist in nearly100 years to be awarded the scholarship, which enabled her to study in New York under Rita Costanzi. She went on to be nominated for and win numerous other prizes, including: Radio-Canada’s Revelation of the Year, a performance prize at the International Harp Competition of the Cité des Arts de Paris, the Young Soloist Prize of the Public Francophone Radios, the Discovery of the Year Award at the Opus Prizes, the Louis-Philippe-Poisson Performing Arts Award of the City of Trois-Rivières, the Prix Trois-Rivières Sans Frontière for her achievements both nationally and internationally, as well as three Adisq Gala nominations.

Rising to new heights |  Spectacular artistic successes have not left Valérie resting on her laurels. To the contrary: she is working even harder on exploring new and innovative ideas, enriching her artistry and looking for new forums to express her talent. In 2017, she will be giving over 20 performances as a soloist with an orchestra including ten performances with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, where she is this season’s Soloist-in-Residence, under batons of YannickNézet-Seguin and Julian Kuerti She will then continue her concert tour across Canada and abroad with Les Violons du Roy and conductor Mathieu Lussier, in duet with violinist Antoine Bareil, with her newly formed trio with Bareil and cellist Stephane Tetreault, and as a solo artist. 2017 will also see Valérie performing and giving master classes in Europe. Of particular note are several engagements in Poland, where she will visit for the first time.

Innovating |  Valérie has recorded seven discs on the Analekta label. In her latest work, Orbis, she pushes the boundaries of her own style. Creating this project has allowed her to work with her most valued artistic partners and to venture boldly into a contemporary musical realm. A surprising repertoire and tremendous technical challenges give Orbis a refreshingly innovative flavour. The live multimedia concert series featuring music from the album has been met with great acclaim and rave reviews. There are preparations made to take the performance on the road across Canada and abroad.

Violinist Antoine Bareil has played in more than a dozen countries. A graduate from the Music Conservatory of Trois-Rivières, a scholar of the Wilfrid-Pelletier Foundation, winner of the Canada Music Competition, he also studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. As a soloist he performed with the orchestras of Drummondville, Halifax, Longueuil, Trois-Rivières, Saskatoon, Sudbury, the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra and the Aspekte Ensemble für Neue Musik in Salzburg. He was a part of the famous Helicopter Quartet performance by the late German composer, Karlheinz Stockhausen. He wrote music for several short films produced by the National Film Board of Canada. Antoine is also a sought-after arranger. His arrangements have been performed and recorded by Alain Lefevre, the Sinfonia de Lanaudière and Angèle Dubeau & La Pietà among others. Versatile musician, he can be heard on many recordings , including those of harpist Valerie Milot. He is a member of Quartango, Concertmaster of the Laval Symphonic Orchestra and plays regularly with Les Violons du Roy. He won many prizes, including the Juno Award 2015 for the best instrumental recording for Quartango’s “Encuentro”. Antoine Bareil plays violin by Vuillaume with a bow by Voirin, loaned by Canimex.
